The technique learns the features of a face or a voice from existing material and then recreates them very convincingly. While it has legitimate uses in film or dubbing, its dangerous side is clear: spreading hoaxes, manipulating public opinion, harassment or fraud, for example cloning an executive’s voice to order a transfer. They are increasingly realistic and easy to make, which makes them hard to spot at a glance. The best defense is skepticism toward surprising content, verifying the source and, at work, confirming unusual requests through another channel.
