FAQ
The most common questions Americans ask about Wix
Most-searched questions, per Sistrix
Is Wix actually free?
Yes, Wix has a genuinely free plan — but with limits. Your site uses a wix.com subdomain, shows Wix ads, and you can't connect a custom domain or sell properly. It's fine for testing or a hobby page; for a professional site you'll need a paid plan (from US$17/mo) to remove the ads and use your own domain.
Which is better, Wix or Google Sites?
Wix is far more capable for most websites — thousands of templates, e-commerce, marketing tools and real design freedom. Google Sites is a free, bare-bones tool best for simple internal or informational pages inside Google Workspace. For a genuine business or personal-brand site, Wix wins comfortably; for a quick internal page, Google Sites is enough.
What is the downside of Wix?
Once you pick a template you can't switch to a different one without rebuilding, the cheapest plans have storage and feature limits, and a feature-packed Wix site can load a little slower than a lean hand-built one. You also can't migrate a Wix site to another platform. For most users the convenience and flexibility outweigh these trade-offs.
Is Wix or Squarespace better?
Wix offers more flexibility, more templates and an easier learning curve, with true drag-and-drop placement. Squarespace gives more consistently polished, designer-quality results and is a favorite for portfolios and content-led sites. Choose Wix for flexibility and features, Squarespace for refined design straight out of the box.
How much does Wix cost per month?
Wix paid plans start at US$17/mo for the entry Light tier and rise through the mainstream Core plan (around US$29/mo) to higher Business and Business Elite tiers, all billed annually; monthly billing costs a little more. There's also a free plan with Wix branding. Most small businesses are well served by the Core plan.
Is Wix a Russian company?
No. Wix is an Israeli company, founded in Tel Aviv in 2006 and publicly traded on the Nasdaq. It has no connection to Russia.
Is GoDaddy or Wix better for website design?
Wix is the stronger design tool, with far more templates, true drag-and-drop control and richer built-in features. GoDaddy's builder is faster and simpler to set up but noticeably more limited on design. For creative control choose Wix; if you just want the quickest possible simple site, GoDaddy can do the job.
